Bowling for Pride: That's all I have left
This past Thursday evening JBK and I took our community group out bowling after a home cooked meal served at Eek's house. *LIB note....savory chicken thighs, potatos whipped to a feathery fluff, and fresh zucchini (flavorful green and bitter yellow). Curiously enough, a verbal agreement had been discussed earlier in the day, which quickly came to life as we all laced up our rentals and picked out our balls.
In one corner you had LIB...former annual summer bowler as a youth...probably a 120-145 bowler at the height of a journeyman career. At the other end there was Eek...someone who was estimated to roll in the 110-125 range and most likely would not walk into a showdown without an ace or two up her sleeve. The stage was set for one of the funniest moments of my life recently....
LIB: (rolls first frame) 7
Eek: X
LIB: Whoa...she's a straight bowler...
LIB: (rolls second frame) 4
Eek: X
LIB: Dang...she hit that first pin again...funny...
LIB: (rolls third frame) 7
Eek: X...and turkey comes out to dance on screen
LIB: Dang...I may have to start aiming for strikes...
LIB: (rolls fourth frame) 9
LIB: Yeah baby...time to go to work
Eek: 9...on first try
LIB: Yes! The streak is broken!
Eek: /
LIB: Hmmmm....I could lose this thing...
Well, by the end of the 10th frame I had lost by almost double my final score. Eek: 162 / LIB: 82. So the terms of our deal involved the winners car being washed by the loser (double for me b/c a honda civic x 2 = Buick P.A.). Hahaha, I can't believe I lost...by that much!! All good though...the experience felt both fun and humbling within the same breath.
If this were baseball the picture would have been Greg Maddux performing surgery on opposing hitters for one side and Ben McDonald throwing heat and beaning everything in sight on the other. Time for me to take up bowling again sayeth I.
One other interesting note was that another member of our CG, EcarG, went bowling for the first time ever in her life. It wasn't pretty. Hopefully, she'll brush the dust off her shoulders and get back on the horse.
My right arm and shoulder are pretty worn out today...=P
