Lord Have Mercy

I'm done with summer school! Turned in my stack of materials today and walked through the door without looking back. Another great step. Tired, but ready to enjoy the remaining days before the sun starts setting earlier and the weather goes back to biting my toes. Here we go!

It Totally Took Me Off Guard

One of the newer and less vocal members of our community group emailed us a prayer request last night. It was a really heart heavy event that directly deals with what we've been studying as a group over the last 3 or 4 months. A part of me is a little bit nervous ( but in an great way ) because we aren't just a group of people going through some material anymore. One of our own now has a glaring hole in her life that is in need of healing and Christ's presence.

This is a surprising development.  When JBK comes back from Mexico we'll need to come up with a plan of support. But man, the fact that she opened up to the rest of us. That is big. Could this help bring us a bit closer together? I hope so.

Subject: You Gals Played Great

Hi Ladies,

I just wanted to convey to you all how awesome I think your collective efforts were over the weekend. Really, you guys played tough and showed alot of poise during the second half. Remember when the other team started to hold the ball? There was well over two minutes left on the clock and we were only down by about 6 or 7 points. I don't want to speculate, but they knew what I thought and that was BOY!....We can win this!

Good job. Way to play hard.

ps...don't be afraid to shoot it.

The Most Beautiful Leaf in the World

While chatting with our receptionist late in the afternoon yesterday, my attention was suddenly shifted to a vibrant flash of green fluttering out of the sky and onto the road below. Knowing that no tree in the surrounding area could even possibly produce that kind of color this time of year, I curiously walked outside to take a closer look and see what kind of anomaly this really was.

It was emerald green (Wizard of Oz Emerald City green) and had a very thin stem at the very end. Suddenly the leaf flipped over to the other side and its angular edges started to fold beneath it. The stem started to open and close as well. Being surprised, I stepped back a little bit only to soon realize that what I was looking at was actually a fallen hummingbird rather than a leaf. Holy Cow!

Hummingbirds are very mean and territorial. They often fly with such speed that to catch them in your line of sight on the clearest of days would be considered a rarity. The fact that this one had crashed into one of the building's reflective planes and knocked itself silly was certainly a concern, but having the opportunity to appreciate it in such close proximity was a real treat.

I scooped it up off the road and held it in the cup of my hand for a little bit. Eventually I nestled the bird back onto the ground in some brush so that it could recover without fear of being crushed to death.

What a brief and spectacular moment. It was the pinnacle of a day that had been slowly getting better and better with every passing minute. The week still looks pretty intimidating. Thank God for a few great friends and scatter brained little birds. Time to pony up and get it on.

Starting the Week Off Strong

I'm not looking forward to this week at all. The past weekend has already stressed me out close to my limitations. A few minutes ago, I was awoken from an already troubled slumber with a tummy ache and found it really difficult slip back into unconsciousness. It'll all be over soon though. Summer school is drawing to an end. The CCU season will be winding down into the playoffs. We'll be meeting with Jeff and the other CG leaders over where the church stands on crucial details about our ministry. This last one really stings. When I compose my thoughts more an opinon will be posted.

Humility and Endurance. Humility and Endurance.

Thank you CQL for sending me an unbirthday card when I needed one most. Enjoy the rest of your stay before heading off to Manila!

Ok, time to go get cleaned up and start the day on the offensive.
