And the Cheese Stands Alone

Darn, I tried to link a news story that required insider access to pull up. The article was an editorial speaking of the lone individual who stood up to a column of communist tanks during the Tianamen Square tragedy 15 years ago today.

"For me, he represents the unknown soldier of the Chinese democratic revolution," said John Kamm, executive director of the Dui Hua Foundation, a San Francisco-based human rights group.

"No one in the country has ever seen the images. In fact, no ordinary Chinese beyond the protesters and soldiers involved even knows of the standoff. Even today, Chinese can't see the famous photograph, even on the Internet. Attempts to download the picture are blocked by the government."

Everyone should remember that image well. Inspirational and harrowing within the same breath.

Still makes me think.

Miscellaneous Thoughts of a Sleepless Brain

No more NBA Live for me. Ever. It has been said before, but this time the word has to be honored. There are just too many nights of tossing the controllers and storming off. As much fun as it is to be competitive, often times the reality of it being just a mindless video game is easily lost. Gosh, I'm feeling really guilty and hope that my time can now be spent being more encouraging to my roomates rather than trying to be the best chimpanzee in the house at pushing buttons. Parting thoughts: Dolby is the most naturally blessed in being able to learn a game and maxing out its potential.

Hot chocolate with marshmellows. Fobby haircuts and rubber bands shaped like frogs. Lapping water bobbing a clipper ship side to side. Singing to the radio while driving with the windows down. Paintings of people with big ol round eyes. Haha, what a night.

I can't wait to get my photo printer. I can't wait to get my new bedsheets. I can't wait to read more about the prayer tendencies of David tomorrow. I can't wait to take a long hot shower. I can't wait to eat my orange marmalade toast in the morning.

Welcome to the world Apple Blythe Allison Martin!

Yawn....ok now I'm tired.

I Love My Sister

What a bland template eh? I got the chance to play around with Dreamweaver over the weekend and am pretty excited about putting my website together. Man, having the chance to tailor it specifically is going to be so sweet. Bang! Project for the summer.

My sister came into town a few weeks ago on business for her sorority and finally wrapped things up this morning. We were only able to meet up for a quick Japanese dinner, but the time spent catching up and sounding things off on each other was nothing short of enjoyable. I really love the fact that we don't have to speak that often in order to maintain our closeness. This is especially important b/c as children we were often times at odds over all kinds of things.

The most entertaining portion of the night had to be when I posed the question as to whether or not she could ever envision herself living out here in the bay area. Much to my surprise her thoughts centered around a resounding "Nope". Among the things that crossed her comforts were many of the familiarities which also rattled my bones during the first half year or so of my stay. Too cold. Too dry. No parking. No left turns. Rampant inflation. Houses too small. Too crowded in chinatown. Too many homeless people. Not enough grass. State income tax. Etc.

I nearly doubled over with laughter when she started ranting about that stuff.

It makes me think about how much God has taught me in my time out here in California. There is still a long way to go and many lessons to learn, but WOW....so much to be thankful for. So much that is taken for granted.

No more sashimi for a very long time. Who am I kidding. Give it a week...=P
